Citizens to give Mancini big payday

Citizens to give Mancini big payday

Manchester City is ready to offer Roberto Mancini a mind-boggling £22 million to stay at Eastlands for another four years.
According to reports in the Sun, the mega deal is a reward from the club's owners for his achievements the past 22 months, having taken the club into the Champions League, as well as winning their first trophy in 35 years with the FA Cup last season.
The details of the plans will take his current £3.5 million-a-year salary to £5.5 million, which would put him on the same pay scale as Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
Although the 46-year-old has his detractors, who claim that the Citizen's success is down to the money Sheikh Mansour has given to assemble their squad, rather than the Italian's managerial nous, the City hierarchy, including chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, are keen to keep the Italian happy, and want to extend his initial deal, signed in Dec 2009, that has just about 18 months left to run.
They are well aware that there is interest to bring Mancini back to Italy, especially from Juventus, who are well aware that the manager has been a fan of the Turin club since his childhood.
In addition, the Italian national team could also be a possible option for Mancini, and City are keen to start negotiating terms in January to ensure that their manager does not become tempted by greener pastures.
